Obituary for William D. "Bill" Nickerson II

William D. Nickerson, II, 78, of Pennsburg, husband of the late Janice H. (Heil) Nickerson, of Pennsburg, passed away on April 29, 2016 at home.

Born in Akron, Ohio, he was a son of the late William and Mary Anna (Whitecotton) Nickerson.

He was a graduate of Pennsburg High School, then enlisted in the Navy, earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer and serving 19 years as a Seabee in the Naval Reserves.

He worked 42 years as a Heavy Equipment Operator for the International Operating Engineers Union Local #542 retiring in 2007. He also owned and operated A Fence Company for 20 years.

Bill was a member of Palm Schwenkfelder Church. He collected Hit-N-Miss Gas Engines, participated in the Hay Creek Antique Engine Show and was a lifetime member of the Rough & Tumble Club in Kinzers, PA.

Surviving are two sons, William Nickerson III and Nancy Greger of Macungie and Doug Nickerson and wife, Loni of Pennsburg; 5 grandchildren, Clay Nickerson, Colton Nickerson, Katrina Nickerson, Heather Manion and Chris Rushing; 9 great grandchildren; a brother, Hugh Nickerson of Etters, PA; two sisters, June Simmons of Big Rock, TN and Mary Luth of Fort Lauderdale, FL; several nieces and nephews and his companion, Elaine Cramer of Quakertown. Along with his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Carol F. Wilson.
