Obituary for Anthony V. Rota

Anthony Vincent Rota was the eighth of ten children born to Pasquale and Carmela Dibona Rota. His childhood was spent in the wartime era Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia. Characteristic of the son of Italian parents, with siblings close in age and relations, he ran with packs of neighbor kids who made memories that lasted a lifetime.

Graduating from North Catholic H.S. in 1951, Anthony followed in his brothers’ footsteps and became a U.S. Marine. He served as an aviation mechanic until his honorable discharge in 1955. Following his military service, Anthony began a career in computer manufacturing in the industry’s technological infancy to the early 1990’s, working for Philco, Burroughs, and Unisys.

In 1962, Anthony married his Irish sweetheart, Joan Patricia Holloran. While they started their family in the Parkwood neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia, the family moved to the suburbs in 1971 where their three children - Anthony, Kristen, and Karen - enjoyed a rural life surrounded by corn fields and dairy farms. Joan and Tony remained in their Pottstown home for fifty years.

Anthony was the last surviving of his much loved siblings- Henry, Viola, Victoria (Alex), Vincent (Viola), Frank (Betty), Henry (Mary), Theresa (Carl), Amedio (Shirley), and MaryAnn. He tragically lost his daughter Kristen Carmela Eves, her infant son Jacob, and his eldest grandson Anthony Wayne Rota. He is survived and will be missed by Joan, his wife of 60 years, his son Anthony and wife Joy, of Boyertown, his son-in-law Barry Eves of Pottstown, his daughter Karen Ogden and husband Doug, of Doylestown, and his brother-in-law, James Lewis of Lansdale. Pop-pop will be remembered by his grandchildren, Elise Rota, Abbi and Jared Eves, Harlan and Evan Ogden. Finally, his many nieces and nephews hold a special fondness for Uncle Anthony.

Anthony’s life, childhood to old age, was defined by his love of family, food, and wine. His traditional sensibilities made him a man of simple pleasures - thunderstorms on a summer night, time spent in a hammock, freshly mown grass, a good book and a warm fire, a challenging crossword puzzle, and family gathered round a table.

Due to COVID the service is postponed and will be announced at a later date.
