Obituary for David VonStaark Rose

David Vonstaark Rose 54 of Coopersburg, Pa died on Wednesday, June 9. Dave was the owner/chef of Gala Gourmet Catering, and Operations Manager at Jurin Roofing Systems. Dave was an adventurer and found joy learning new things and challenging himself; he was a true renaissance man. Dave was happiest when he was outside. Whether climbing to the top of Mount Rainier, backpacking in Death Valley, running the NYC marathon, hiking and bouldering at South Mountain, gardening, bee keeping, trail running or birding, he truly found joy in nature. He showed a flair for cooking at an early age. He continued cooking elaborate delicious food for his loved ones even as his cancer progressed. He and his mom shared a love for the Phillies and both enjoyed their yearly outing to watch them play. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown in 1988. He was an early proponent of greyhound rescue and adopted a half a dozen greyhounds over the years. For those of us who knew him, he especially loved the celebrating the annual burning of the Christmas tree with a good cigar! His passing coincided with the 17 year cicadas, which was his favorite sound.

Dave will be loving remembered by his mother Mary Sanford Rose, his wife Dawn Poulson, his step children Natalie Lucia Ciuta and Jamie Elaine Ciuta; his brother James Anderson Rose V, his wife Joan Siefert Rose, and their children Andy and Ian; his sister Elizabeth Runquist, her husband Keith Runquist their children Caitlin Hollearn and her husband Chris, his grandnephews Jensen and Miles, and Tina Mattson and her husband Cortney, and his grandniece Scarlett ; and Kylo and Al, his Chihuahuas. He was predeceased by his father, James Anderson Rose IV. Dave asks that you hike somewhere, climb something, or wake up in a tent somewhere wild. He was a firm believer in not obeying all of the rules but doing no harm.

A visitation will be held from 10 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, July 17, 2021 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA 18041. A Celebration of David’s Life will begin at 12:00 pm. You may offer online condolences at www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com
