Obituary for John A. Smith

John A. Smith, 75, of Pennsburg, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Muriel (Villano) Smith, with whom he shared what would have been 51 years of marriage this coming November.

Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late John M. and Louise Anne (Rishel) Smith.

John was a 1967 graduate of North Pocono High School and later attended Lincoln Technical School in Allentown. He began a career with Unisys in Blue Bell as a Systems Analyst and retired after working there for over 30 years.

He was a member of Tabor United Methodist Church in Woxall, where he served as a Trustee. He was also a member and current President of the Wingfield Hunting Club.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved cheering on the Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers football teams and enjoyed completing sudoku puzzles. His most beloved place was the cabin where he would spend time hunting, cooking, playing cards or enjoying time with family. He loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them. Everyone he met loved him and thought of him as a gentle giant. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving along with his wife are his two daughters, Jennifer McClarren and husband, Kirk and Pamela Rivera and significant other, Jack Egner; two grandchildren, Colin and Marissa McClarren; three sisters, Anne Dyer, widow of Donald, Carol Morgan and husband, Charles and Wendy Sullivan, widow of Joseph; a brother, Larry Smith and wife, Marie; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service will be held by the family at 11am on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Tabor United Methodist Church, 2209 Hendricks Station Rd, Woxall, PA 18979 with a burial following in church cemetery. Family and friends may visit with the family from 10am to 11am.
