Obituary for Larry Roland Walker

Larry Roland Walker, born in Christmas day on 1935 in Sumneytown, PA passed away in his sleep in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in the early morning of June 14, 2021. The son of Sumneytown natives, Frank and Dorothy Walker, he was one of four children, including a sister Loretta (Landis) and two brothers, Dennis and the sole surviving sibling, Barry “Butch” Walker.
As a career military man, Larry traveled the world extensively and married Eveline Frieda (Winkler) in Germany. Throughout his career, he traveled to Germany three times and produced a son there with each tour of duty. He is survived by his eldest son Wolfgang and his youngest son, Steven. His middle son, Michael passed away in September and his wife of 60 years passed a year earlier.
Larry was only 17 when he enlisted in the U.S. Army and as soon as he turned 18, he was sent to serve in the Korean War. He also served 3 tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star among many other military honors.
After retiring from the military he remained active in the VFW and American Legion. He was also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Sumneytown, PA. Over the years, he volunteered to honor over 150 other veterans at their burial ceremonies throughout Montgomery County and beyond. As Larry got older, he harbored a passion for genealogy, spending much of his time tracking down his family history and helping others to discover theirs. Now he will become an entry in the hundreds of pages of Walker history that he accumulated, one that generations to come should be proud to read about.
Graveside Services for Larry and Eveline will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at Friedens Union Cemetery, 1011 Church Road, Sumneytown, PA at 1:00 PM. Online condolences may be offered by visiting www.mannslonakerfuneralhome.com. Arrangement are by Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home of East Greenville.
