Obituary for Martha A. "Martie" Persing

Martha A. “Martie” (Molchan) Persing, 86, of Pennsburg, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at her home. She was the loving wife of Dr. Thomas E. Persing; they shared 65 years of marriage together.

Martie was born in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, and she was the daughter of the late John and Martha (Simonitis) Molchan.

Martie was a 1952 graduate of Plymouth High School. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg in 1956 and received a master’s degree in Education from Lehigh University in 1970. She was a teacher in the Allentown School District for 7 years; the Wilson School District for 7 years; the Berks Intermediate Unit for 18 years; and the Boyertown School District for 5 years. She retired in 1993. After retirement she was a volunteer candy striper at St. Luke’s Hospital in Quakertown. She was a member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ in East Greenville. Martie enjoyed gardening, traveling, shopping and watching classic movies.

The survivors, along with her husband, are her two children, Thomas Scott Persing and wife, Clare of Topton, PA ; Kris, wife of Stewart of Rustburg, VA; two granddaughters, Kayla and Khymberli, who is the wife of Shane Spikes; as well as four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ, 1070 Church Rd., East Greenville, PA. Arrangements are entrusted to the Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville, PA.
