Obituary for Mary E. McCarty (Weikel)

Mary E. (Weikel) McCarty, of East Greenville, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 13, 2021 at The Phoenix Center in Phoenixville, PA. She was 71 years old. She was the loving wife of Robert D. McCarty, Sr., with whom she shared 52 years of marriage.

She was born in Philadelphia to the late Clarence and Ruth (Worthington) Weikel.

Upon moving to Red Hill, Mary was employed by Plummer Precision Optics for five years. However, the majority of her career was spent as a Computer Technology Specialist at Knoll, Inc. in East Greenville where she worked for 30 years before retiring. She was a member of St. Philip Neri R.C. Church in Pennsburg. She enjoyed bowling with the ladies of the East Greenville Fire Co and coaching youth bowling with her husband for several years. A dog-lover at heart, Mary and her husband adopted 15 dogs over the course of their marriage.

Mary was always family-centered and would go above and beyond to help them. She enjoyed planning trips and activities for the family especially their cross-country trip to South Dakota and all destinations in between as well as the numerous trips to Kissimmee, Florida. Mary found enjoyment in fishing, gardening, sci-fi movies, crafting, quilting, and photography. She even had some photos printed in a national magazine.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Michele Martin of East Greenville, and Robert D. McCarty, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of East Greenville; and granddaughter, Hayley Martin. She is predeceased by her sister, Phyllis Scheirer; and her brother, James Weikel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, September 17, 2021 at St. Philip Neri R.C. Church, 1325 Klinerd Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073 with the burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Pennsburg. A viewing will be held from 10 to 10:45 AM at the church prior to Mass.
