Obituary

Wilbur Frank Herwig, Sr., 83, of Quakertown, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. He was the loving husband of Frances L. (Seal) Herwig, sharing 31 years of marriage together.

Born in Easton, PA, he was the son of the late Wilbur B. and Martha (Briner) Herwig.

Wilbur served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1959. After being honorably discharged, he started a career as a heavy duty truck mechanic, working at several companies; including, Longacre’s, Bergey’s and Haines and Kibblehouse.

He was a member of the Tri-boro Marine Corp League. He loved horses and rode in a few rodeos throughout his life.

Surviving are his 6 children, Patricia Herwig, Joseph Herwig and wife, Beth, Wilbur Herwig, Jr. and wife Sandy, Elizabeth Giranda and husband, James, Lisa Herwig and partner, Stacy and Richard Herwig and wife, Stephanie; three step-children, Laura Johnson and husband, James, Jonathan Hepler and fiancé, Michelle, and Sandra Hovermale; a sister, Helen Heisey and husband, Jacob; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth Herwig; a brother, Ernest; a granddaughter, Amanda Hovermale; and his beloved horse Smoke.

A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Old Goshenhoppen Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at www.stjude.org

Fran, So sorry to hear. Wilbur was a great guy. I remember his retirement lunch when he left us all downstairs & snuck off to go back to work. I will keep you in my prayers. Cindy Rush

What an honor it has been to have you as my Father in Law, Friend, Buddy..you were one of the Greatest Men I ever knew, and will always be cherished in our Hearts..Thank you Fran (Mother Herwig) and his children and grandchildren for sharing him with the world. Remembering our days as your neighbor on Schwoyer Rd. living on the farmhouse domain - at that time we sort of were one big family! You raised your children to be good people with love in their hearts Very sad that you are gone like a few of my very treasured loved ones,😢
