Arthur James Hartzell

Arthur James "Jim" Hartzell, of Green Lane, passed away suddenly at home on Sunday, December 28, 2025 at 77 years old. He was born in Sellersville, PA on January 27, 1948 the son of the late Arthur and Monica (Ruebe) Hartzell.

Jim graduated from North Penn High School (Lansdale) in 1966. He then served honorably in the U.S. Air Force until his discharge in 1970. After which he began working in the horticulture field while also earning an Associate Degree in Business from Ursinus College. In 2016 he retired from Premier Horticulture as VP of Sales, a career that allowed him to travel extensively and build lasting friendships with customers and fellow sales associates.

Jim married his sweetheart Vivian (Schiefer) in 1968. Their son Jim was born in 1974 and daughter Beth in 1977. A family graced with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

A man of many interests, Jim loved sharing them with his family and friends; taking them on countless trips to railroad, aeronautic and vehicle museums, as well as racetracks, stadiums, airfields, historic sites and cities. He enjoyed working on and driving his small collection of classic cars; as well as collecting and operating model trains, planes and automobiles. Jim also enjoyed photography and genealogy, documenting the stories of his family, friends and the world around him. He had a unique gift with words, mastering word jumbles and expressing himself with a poetic flair, often enhanced by his clever use of expletives. His wit and humor were a source of joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He was endlessly generous. His greatest priority was his family's happiness, never denying us anything no matter the cost. But his generosity extended far beyond, quietly helping friends, coworkers and anyone in need, never questioning why or seeking recognition.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, James K Hartzell; daughter, Beth Pavinich (Eric); and brother Barry Hartzell (Merit), each of whom carries his legacy forward.

Jim will be interred at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. A public, informal gathering for all who would like to share their fondest memories and experiences is being planned, specifics will be available shortly. Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville.
