Barbara A. MacKelvey, beloved mother, sister, and friend of anyone who would know her, passed comfortably into the Lord's arms this past Thanksgiving, November 28, 2024, at the age of 64. Born on January 16, 1960, in Pennsylvania, to the late Orvis and Dorothy (Hinkle) Barndt, Barbara lived a life full of love and laughter, and always knew how to bring joy into the lives of those she was with.
A graduate of Upper Perk High School, Barbara furthered her education at Hesston College. During the 2000s she was working on a career in retail, working at Walmart, where she was known for her willingness to help others. Tragically, Barbara's journey took a difficult turn following a car accident that led her to retire early. Nonetheless, she faced her challenges with grace and resilience.
Barbara was a member of the Finland Mennonite Church. Above all, she treasured her family, especially her son, Phillip MacKelvey, who was the light of her life. Barbara's warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be remembered fondly by everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Barbara is survived by her beloved son, Phillip; her sister, Beverly King; and three nieces. She was predeceased by sister, Linda Barndt-Tyson; and brothers, David and Kenny Barndt.
A memorial service will be held on June 30, 2025 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St., East Greenville, PA 18041. Viewing of her urn will begin at 1:30 PM, with the service following at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the National Lymphedema Network or the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation.
