Bernard "Bernie" Sobjak

Bernard A. Sobjak, affectionately known as Bernie, of Bechtelsville, PA, passed away peacefully at his home on September 9, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Bally, PA, to the late Joseph Sobjak, Sr. and Amelia (Henry) Sobjak.

Bernie was married to his devoted wife, Donna R. (Kline) Sobjak, for 54 wonderful years, creating a life filled with love and cherished memories. A 1968 graduate of Boyertown High School, Bernie dedicated an impressive 51 years of his life to Bally Ribbon Mills, where he was known for his skill and dedication as a weaver.

Bernie proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, a Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Bronze Star Medal. His service to his nation was a cornerstone of his identity, and he was a member of the Topton Post 217 American Legion as well as the American Veterans Association.

His community involvement extended beyond his military service. Bernie was a devoted member of Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Bally and found joy in being part of the Bally Sportsman Association. For 25 years, he also served as a volleyball coach at Brandywine Heights Middle School and for the Most Blessed Sacrament CYO League, inspiring countless young athletes through his passion for the sport.

An avid hunter, Bernie cherished the time spent at his cabin in Potter County, which he owned since 1976. He especially enjoyed hunting trips with friends and family, especially with his sons and grandsons, sharing laughter and stories that would become lifelong memories. He loved his family deeply, and the moments they shared together were the most treasured of his life.

Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Donna; their children, Michelle Yenser (Richard), Chad Sobjak (Noelle), Phillip Sobjak (Pamela), and Mary Heller (Bradley); 13 adoring grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and ten siblings, Antoinette Tirjan, Joseph Sobjak, Jr., Mary Ellen Carpenter, Jane Keill, Margaret Strunk, Edward Sobjak, Stephen Sobjak, Mario Sobjak, Rita Kemp and Frank Sobjak. He is predeceased by a brother Michael Sobjak.

Bernie's legacy is one of love, dedication, and celebration of family. He was a guiding light, whose compassion and strength will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He will be laid to rest privately at Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville, PA. There will be a Celebration of Life for family and friends at a later date.
