Estelle G. Hanney passed away peacefully on February 2, 2026, at Peter Becker Community, at the remarkable age of 100. Born in Philadelphia to the late Francis and Mary (Byrnes) Golden, Estelle lived a life defined by love, faith, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to her family.
A 1943 graduate of Hallahan Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Estelle went on to earn an associate's degree in business from Philadelphia Community College. At a time when family always came first, she devoted herself wholeheartedly to her role as a homemaker, finding her greatest joy in being a wife and mother. Estelle shared 60 loving years of marriage with her beloved husband, the late Thomas J. Hanney, Sr., until his passing in 2008-a partnership marked by deep affection, mutual respect, and steadfast support.
Family was truly the center of Estelle's life. She took immense pride in raising her seven children-William, Estelle, Thomas J. Jr. (Judith), Patricia Bucci (Timothy), Michael (Jane), Sharon Sein (Martin), and Francis (Barbara) -nurturing each of them with love, patience, and dedication. In later years, she delighted in her roles as grandmother, great‑grandmother, and great‑great‑grandmother, remaining actively involved in the lives of her growing family. She treasured time spent together, especially family celebrations, vacations to the Jersey Shore and the Pocono Mountains, and just being together which brought her great happiness and lasting memories.
A woman of strong faith and service, Estelle was a devoted member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church in Pennsburg and a former parishioner of St. Matthew's Church in Philadelphia. She was an active and dedicated member of the Catholic Daughters of St. Matthew's for 40 years, as well as membership in the parish senior group. Her generous spirit was further reflected through her involvement with the Cerebral Palsy parent group in Roxborough, where she gave her time and compassion to support others.
In her leisure time, Estelle enjoyed playing the piano, reading, and solving crossword puzzles. She had a fondness for classic movies and was a loyal and enthusiastic fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.
In addition to her children, Estelle is survived by her cherished grandchildren: Alexandra, Bryan, Amber, Anastasia, Elizabeth, Bridget, Erin, Bri, Gianna, Evan, and Donovan; her great‑grandchildren: Nathan, AJ, Addison, Connor, Aiden, Lucas, Ju'Lani, Helen, Andrew, and Carmine; her great‑great‑grandson, D'Mazi; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, William "Bill" Hanney; her sister, Mary Golden, SSJ; and her brothers, Joseph, Edmund, Francis, John, and Robert Golden and great-grandson DaSean.
A memorial service celebrating Estelle's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1325 Klinerd Road, Pennsburg, PA 18073. Visitation will take place from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Philip Neri Church.
