Fred H. Scherzer

Fred H. Scherzer, aged 82, of Perkiomenville, departed this life peacefully (at his home) on August 29, 2026. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Hugo and Erna (Meier) Scherzer. Fred was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend who touched the lives of all who knew him.

A 1962 graduate of Upper Perkiomen High School, Fred dedicated many years as an automotive technician whose expertise and dedication shone through his impressive career. He spent 25 years at Heimbach and Sweat Chevrolet followed by 15 years at Red Hill Ford. Alongside his work at Red Hill Ford, Fred proudly owned and operated Fred's Repair Shop for an impressive 30 years and was very well known throughout the Upper Perkiomen valley area.

Throughout his life, Fred was more than just a mechanic; he was a true enthusiast. His love for cars and jukeboxes led him to become an active member of the Lehigh Valley Corvair Club, the Pottstown Car Club, and the American Historical Jukebox Club. Known for his unwavering work ethic, he never let his hands sit idle. Whether he was tackling projects around the house, cutting wood, or simply tinkering, there was always a sense of purpose in everything he did. He had a special love for family vacations, especially to Wildwood, NJ. Fred also cherished moments spent with friends over breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

Fred was married to his loving wife, Diana "Dee" (Way) Scherzer, for 60 years before her passing in 2025.

He is survived by his sons, Walter and wife, Kristin and Jeffrey and partner, Jules; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Walter Scherzer.

A visitation time to celebrate and honor Fred's life will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026 from 4 to 6 PM at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington St., East Greenville, PA 18041 with a celebration of life dinner to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to The (Perkiomenville branch of the) Montgomery County SPCA (www.montgomerycountyspca.org) or Logan's Heroes Animal Rescue ( www.lharinc.org/ ).
