Gregory Kressirer Jr.

Gregory (Gregor) Kressirer Jr., 90, of Bechtelsville, passed away on July 26, 2026. He was born on August 6, 1935 to Gregor Kressirer Sr. and Elisabeth Weinrich Kressirer in Kassel, Germany. He grew up during WWII and despite the hardships of war and losing his father, he remained dedicated to family and strong in his Catholic faith, serving as an altar boy for many years. After the war, he attended school one day a week and trade school the remaining days learning the baking trade.

In 1955, he immigrated to the United States and worked in the Weinrich family bakery in Penndel. Shortly after, he was drafted into the United States Army Signal Corps. He graduated from Fort Monmouth Signal School after four months and was assigned to the European US Army Signal Corp headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany. Once there he worked in the transmitter department doing world-wide communications to Paris, Athens, Turkey and the US. Following his service, he returned to Philadelphia living at the German Kolping House. He worked in radio/television during the days, attended night school, and enjoyed playing soccer with his Kolping German-American Soccer Club.

A man of many careers, perhaps the most talked about was his time at General Electric where he was employed in the aero-space division. Working in quality assurance and inspection, he worked on Nimbus 1 & 2. After layoffs, he returned to his German roots and opened Kressirer's Bakery in East Greenville, which he owned and operated from 1969-1972. Following this, he ventured into a new career, opening Valley Shoe Center in Pennsburg. Shortly after, he met his wife Diane Kressirer (Troxell), who together would operate the business until their retirement in 2000.

Gregory had many passions in life, including playing and watching soccer, golfing, baking, spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren, as well as sharing his German heritage. He remained a man of faith attending mass weekly at St. Philip Neri Roman Catholic Church in Pennsburg and was always eager to attend his grandchildren's school events, soccer games and dance competitions and recitals.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Alfred Kressirer of Munich, Germany. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; his daughter, Elizabeth Gill and her husband, Tim Gill of Tampa, Fl; his daughter Monica Stec and her husband, Jim Stec of Bechtelsville, PA; his daughter, Danelle Matlack and her husband, Ian Matlack of Gilbertsville, Pa; as well as his six grandchildren; Jennifer Karpowich, Kristen Feliciano, Stephanie Barnett, Matthew Hudson, Liam Matlack and Leighton Matlack; and his three great grandchildren, who will miss him dearly.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, July 30, 2026 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, 1325 Klinerd Rd, Pennsburg, PA 18073. A memorial lunch will be hosted by the family at a later date. Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville, PA.
