Richard (Pop) Cyrus Chappell, a resident of Greeley, PA, formerly of Steinsburg, PA, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at the age of 83. Fully confident in his salvation through Jesus Christ, RIchard did not fear death, for he knew that Jesus is the resurrection and the life. He rests in the arms of his Savior. To those reading this, know that Pop wants you to know the saving grace of Jesus. (Romans 10:13)
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Cyrus and J. Elizabeth (Henne) Chappell.
A 1960 graduate from Hatboro-Horsham High School, Richard embarked on a diverse career that saw him navigate many roles-from running his own business - Milford Square Garage and working in construction and demolition alongside his son, Andy; working for Leeds and Northrup, and ultimately retiring as a claims adjuster for Erie Insurance.
Richard was a former member of Grace Bible Fellowship, Blooming Grove Baptist Church, and First Baptist Church of Hawley.
Richard appreciated the outdoors, enjoying the stillness of nature and the wonder of God's Creations. He hunted and fished for the table, and enjoyed fly tying..using the vise his father made for him as a boy. He enjoyed gardening, and he expressed his creativity in everything he did, through woodworking-crafting beautiful canes, making jewelry, and much more. His love of old cars and experience as a mechanic brought him joy. Richard loved to read and was a devoted history buff, with a particular admiration for Theodore Roosevelt. He especially loved sharing stories of his misadventures.
Richard's greatest joy on this earth has always been his loving family, including his devoted wife, Betty (Jarema) Chappell with whom he would have shared 40 years of marriage this coming August; their children, Andrew, Pamela, Philip, Daniel (Becky), and Mary Kreuter (Corey); his grandchildren: Brett (Ashley), Erika (Scotty), Stephanie (Dillon), Toshia (Matt), Jesse (Vanessa), Zoe (Jake), Natalie, and Jessica and Carly; his great-grandchildren: Colton, Harley, Brooke, Meredith, Brielle, Vivianna, and two more great-grandbabies on the way; and his siblings, Naomi Morris (Chris) and Robert Chappell (Dottie).
He also leaves behind his extended family, Aunt Jennie Bergman, Tony Jarema (Shirleyann), Mary Ann Jarema Damon (Robert), Donald Jarema (Barbara), Mishael Singh, Lisa and Tom Vitz ("one of my boys"), and Michelle Geisinger, his infusion nurse of 14 years. Also, many loved nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews.
There will be no services at this time. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Alpha-1 Foundation at www.alpha1.org.
