Richard "Dick" L. Hate

Richard "Dick" L. Hate, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2026, at the age of 86. Born April 28, 1939, in Johnstown, PA, he was the son of the late Jack and Madge (Miller) Hate.

After completing high school, Dick pursued his passion for engineering, earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University, June 1962. His career was marked by dedication and innovation, as he devoted many years of service to the Naval Air Development Center in Warminster, PA where as a project engineer, he played a vital role in the development of the V-22 Osprey tiltrotor aircraft, leaving a lasting impact on the field of naval aviation.
 

In his personal life, Dick found great joy and companionship in his marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" (Godshall) Hate, with whom he would have celebrated 62 wonderful years of marriage this month. Together, they shared a passion for antiquing, spending countless hours exploring antique vendor flea markets and attending auctions to collect cherished pieces of history that adorned their home. Dick was also an avid antique car enthusiast and a proud member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, as well as a former member of the Lehigh Valley Thunderbird Club.

Dick is survived by his loving wife Betty; son: Shanen Hate and wife Nicole; his beloved grandchildren: Gabrielle and Tristan Hate; and siblings: Paul Hate and wife Sandy, Neil Hate and partner Madeline, and Ruth Campos and husband Mauricio; and several nieces and nephews. His family was his pride and joy, and he treasured the time spent with them.
