Robert E. Wetzel, a beloved member of the Upper Perkiomen Valley community and former resident of Boyertown, passed away peacefully at the Masonic Village in Elizabethtown on August 13, 2026, at the age of 97. Born in Allentown, he was the son of the late Alvin and Doris (Roth) Wetzel. He is predeceased by his wife, Jane C. (Zepp) Wetzel, with whom he shared a loving bond for 64 remarkable years.
For 35 years, Robert dedicated himself as a mail carrier at the Green Lane Post Office, serving his community with steadfast commitment until his retirement in 1996. Before his tenure at the Post Office, he was a recognized figure in the area, having owned several service stations.
Robert was deeply involved in community service and local initiatives. He proudly held membership in the Perkiomen Lodge #595 F&AM for over 50 years and contributed his time and energy to the Lehigh Consistory. As a past president and treasurer for over 20 years of the Green Lane Marlborough Lions Club and one of the founding members and treasurer of Green Lane Ambulance, he exemplified the spirit of service. He also impacted local governance, serving on the planning commission board for the sewer authority and serving as past president of the Sumneytown Independent School District. When he moved to Boyertown, he became a board member for the Boyertown Multi Service Center. Robert was also a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Bath, PA.
Surviving is a son, Rev. Jay R. Wetzel and his wife, Jill A. of Bath, PA; companion, Justine Kern; six granddaughters, Lauren, Megan, Kristen, Jennifer, Melissa and Hope; and eight great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his son, Alan Wetzel and his wife, Rosanne Glod; and his siblings, Jack, Richard, Alma, and Charles Wetzel.
Services will be held privately. Arrangements are entrusted to Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home.
