William "Bill" Hanney, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at the age of 76. Born in Philadelphia, he was the cherished son of Estelle E. (Golden) Hanney and the late Thomas J. Hanney, Sr.
Bill dedicated many years of his working life as a courier and mailroom technician at the U.S. Naval Depot in the Lawncrest neighborhood of Philadelphia. He later transitioned to the Philadelphia Parking Authority, where he completed his career, retiring in 2015.
Faith was a cornerstone of Bill's life. As a longtime member of St. Matthews R.C. Church in Philadelphia, he served faithfully as a greeter, usher, and a valued member of the Men of St. Matthews organization. Upon moving to Pennsburg, he embraced St. Philip Neri Catholic Church as his home parish.
Bill had many passions. He was actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, as a scout and as an assistant leader for nearly 50 years. An avid bowler, he participated in numerous leagues, showcasing his competitive spirit and camaraderie with fellow bowlers. Bill also found joy in building intricate models of airplanes, military vehicles, cars, trucks, and even movie props. He loved watching movies and had a particular fondness for classic films, especially westerns, Star Trek, and Indiana Jones. A devoted fan of all Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies and Eagles. Bill's life was filled with music, and he especially loved the timeless tunes of Elvis Presley. Singing brought him immense joy, and he often shared his voice with those he loved.
