Obituary for Charles H. "Chas" Krause

Charles H. "Chas"  Krause
Charles H. “Chas” Krause, 96, widower of Blanche E. (Sassaman) Krause, formerly of East Greenville, died on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at his home in Red Hill.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving on the USS Ticonderoga during World War II.

He retired from the Harleysville Insurance Maintenance Department after 15 years and had previously owned Charcoal Charlie’s and worked at the former Brunner’s Bakery, both in East Greenville, and was a bartender at various locations in the area for many years.

He was a lifelong member of New Goshenhoppen United Church of Christ and a 50 year member and 32 Degree Mason of Perkiomen Lodge #595, Red Hill; a life member of the Owl’s Nest #1302, East Greenville and a member of the American Legion Post #184, East Greenville and the East Greenville Fire Company. He was also active in the local scouting program.

Surviving are three children, Cynthia A., wife of Kenneth Himmelwright of Pennsburg, and Charlene E. Krause and Charles D. Krause and his wife, Mary, all of East Greenville; a brother, Lester Krause and his wife, Brenda, of Savannah, GA; 5 grandchildren, Angie Andre, Eric Hunsberger, Jeremy Himmelwright, Becky Weiss and Jonathan Krause; 4 great-grandchildren, Gavin, Brody and Liam Weiss and Tyson Hunsberger and a step-grandson, Richard Geyer. Along with his wife and parents, he is predeceased by five brothers, Frank, Norman, Morris, Harold and Ernest Krause and three sisters, Bessie Christman, Francis Fegley and Rachael Renner.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at New Goshenhoppen UCC, 1070 Church Rd, East Greenville, PA 18041 with the Rev. Michael D. Jones officiating. Burial follows in the church cemetery. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church prior to the service.
