Richard Jonas  Walp
Richard Jonas Walp, 81, husband of Ruth E. (Meikrantz) Walp of Woxall, PA, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at Grand View Hospital, Sellersville, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Drums, PA, he was the son of the late Silas E. and Josephine A. (Horn) Walp.

He honorably served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard 337th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion during the Korean War.

He was employed as a welder for SPS Technologies in Jenkintown for 40 years retiring in March, 1997. After retiring from SPS, he was employed part time by Hugs Daycare at the Harleysville YMCA.

Richard was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sumneytown. He was also a member of Perkiomen Lodge No. 595, Free & Accepted Masons, in Red Hill where he had served as Master in 1980, and currently as a Trustee and Steward. He was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Lehigh Consistory and also a member of the Rajah Shrine Temple in Reading. He was a member of the Green Lane – Marlboro Lions Club and a recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, golf, and traveling with his family, and was a member of the Souderton-Harleysville Fish and Game Club, and a Charter Member of the Ridge Runners Hunting Club.

Surviving along with his wife of 56 years are two children, son Richard J. Walp and his wife, Eve of Downingtown; and daughter Allison, wife of Timothy O’Connor of Cherry Hill, NJ; two brothers, Allan Walp and his wife, Virginia of Coopersburg; and Glenn Walp and his wife Diana of Gold Canyon, AZ; two sisters, Nancy, wife of Charles Vitello of Jackson, NJ; and Eileen Turnbach of Frackville; five grandchildren, Trevor, Hunter, Mackenzie, Gavin and Collin; and many nieces and nephews Along with his parents, he is predeceased by two brothers, William and Rollin.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3104 Main Street, Sumneytown, PA with the Rev. Rebecca Eisenhart officiating. Family and Friends are invited to a visitation from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. with a Masonic Funeral Service at 10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the memorial service.
