Bert to the Rescue
It was fortunately a very hot day in August. We were racing our Flying Scot for the first time with a Spinnaker. A gust of wind coupled with lack of knowledge caused Lois and I to turn turtle or in layman's terms the boat was upside down. We were in the water. Lois had a life jacket and I did not. Bert and his crew, I cannot remember whether it was Mariellen or his daughter , were quickly on the scene to help out. Bert supplied me with a floatation cushion. He abandoned the race and stayed with us while other help arrived. That was the kind of man he was. A really nice, kind and gentle man.
Rest In Peace, Bert.
