Obituary for Gordon H. Baver

Gordon H. Baver, 78, husband of Loretta F. (Schwenk) Baver, of Markley Road, Pennsburg, passed away Monday, July 27, 2009 at Peter Becker Community. He and his wife celebrated 55 years of marriage on September 12, 2008.

Born in Shimerville, PA, he was a son of the late Dr. George G. Baver and Dr. Faith (Hopkins) Baver.
He founded Gordon H. Baver, Inc. on April 1, 1960 and was President until retiring in 1995. He was also a Chairman and Partner of Alply Inc, Mississippi and President of Arch-Wall and B & D Excavating. He was an accredited member of the American Institute of Contractors and involved in the Associated Builders & Contractors Inc serving as President and Board Member of the Lehigh Valley Chapter, the PA State Chapter and was a board member on the National Association. He also served on the Philadelphia Board of the Small Business Administration.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Submarine Service serving in the Korean War.
He was a graduate of Pennsburg High School, Pennington Prep School, Pennington, NJ and Elizabethtown College.
He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Red Hill where he was a President of the Church Council and Chairman of the Finance and Building Committees.

He was Chairman and President of Grand View Hospital; board member of the former American Bank; President and Board Member of Upper Perkiomen Industrial Development; President of Franklin Club of Montgomery Co; a member of the Chairman’s Club, Perkiomen Lodge #595 F&AM, Lehigh Consistory and Rajah Temple and was involved with Boy Scouts of America. He was a life member of the Navy League of the United States, the American Legion Post #184, the National Rifle Association and the Owls Nest #1302, a member of the East Greenville, Pennsburg and Red Hill Fire Companies, the Upper Perkiomen Ambulance Association, the Upper Perkiomen Rotary Club and the former Upper Perkiomen Recreation Council and he was a past president of the Jaycees.

Surviving along with his wife, Loretta, are 3 children, Bruce W. Baver and his wife, Shelley of Pennsburg, Melissa F. Hartman and her husband, Todd of Fleetwood and David G. Baver and his wife, Patricia Ann of Pennsburg; 4 brothers, George Baver of Macungie, Henry Baver of California, Harvey Baver of Florida and Dale Stutzman of Quakertown; a sister, Jane Rozanski and her husband, Leonard of Pennsburg and 8 grandchildren. His sister, Jean Anthony and her husband, Kermit predeceased him.

The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Church and Frye Roads, Red Hill with Rev. William Vanderslice officiating. Interment is in the church cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to a viewing 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday morning at church. Funeral arrangements are by Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, East Greenville.
