Obituary for Harold R. Sands

Harold R. “Chick” Sands, Sr., 80, husband of Ida J. (Hagen) Sands, of Burgundy Circle, Red Hill, PA formerly of Main Street, Red Hill, PA passed away on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at his home. He and his wife celebrated 56 years of marriage in November.

Born in East Greenville, PA he was a son of the late Wilson and Alma (Koch) Sands.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea.
He worked at Philco-Ford in Lansdale, PA for several years then in production at US Gauge in Sellersville, PA for over 30 years retiring in 1992. After retiring in worked at Sands Auto Group for several years.
He was a 1947 graduate of Schwenksville High School earning 3 varsity letters. He then went on to become a pitcher in the Philadelphia Phillies farm system and was proud to have struck out Curt Simmons.

Surviving along with his wife are four sons, Terry L. Sands and wife, Donna of Coopersburg, PA, Glenn S. Sands and wife, Barbara of East Greenville, PA Stuart W. Sands and wife, Debra of Pennsburg, PA and Harold R. Sands Jr. of Quakertown, PA; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Folmar, Tracy Peart, Joshua, Matthew, Zachary and Emily Sands, Michael Gaul, Jarod Sands, Rachael Mackie and Adam Sands and 9 great grandchildren. Along with his parents, he is predeceased by 2 brothers, Stuart and William Sands and a sister, Charlotte Beyer.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Mann-Slonaker Funeral Home, 222 Washington Street, East Greenville, PA with Rev. Rick Paashaus officiating. Family and friends are invited to call 9 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the funeral home.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Avenue, Sellersville PA 18960.
